The Last Pig

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Friday we loaded out the last pig raised in 2008. They sure load easier in packages than when they’re pushing me around with four legs! Thanks to all our customers this year.

Wow, are the chickens ever laying good! This is a really cold winter and usually they don’t lay so good, but I may have stumbled on a secret…. Last fall the combine spilled 5 bushels of shelled corn by the barn, so I scooped it into a barrel and have been feeding it along with the ground corn. Its high moisture corn and the chickens love it and it gives them more energy in the ration to stay warm. I think I’ve finally figured out how to get alot of eggs in the winter!

Is there a way to make it easier for farmers to figure out their taxes?  I wish.  Cold winter Saturdays end up being tax time on this farm.  I’d rather be stoking the fire in the sugarbush, but for now that has to wait on Uncle Sam.
